Four Day Week
In April 2024, we embarked on a bold trial of the 100:80:100 Four Day Week model: 100% pay, 80% of the hours, and 100% of the output. Following eight months of meticulous data collection, surveys, and analysis, our Trustees approved making the scheme permanent in December 2024. Here’s how it works and why we’re proud to offer it.
Why We’re Doing It
The decision to implement the Four Day Week wasn’t taken lightly. We had five clear aims:
1. Retain quality staff.
2. Attract and motivate the best people.
3. Promote health and wellbeing of staff.
4. Improve quality of work and outcomes for beneficiaries.
5. Promote Future Projects as a leading progressive employer in the sector.
Throughout the trial, we monitored key performance data, such as number of clients supported and outcomes achieved, and conducted regular surveys of both staff and beneficiaries. Findings included:
- Improved Performance: All performance metrics showed client numbers, outputs and outcomes were at least maintained across our services, with increases in several areas.
- Enhanced Wellbeing: 90% of staff said the scheme had a very positive impact on their wellbeing.
- Staff Recruitment and Retention: Over the course of the trial, only one member of staff left the charity due to their project coming to an end, but over the same period we recruited eight new people, including two former members of staff who cited the Four Day Week as a major factor for them returning to the charity.
As one team member put it: “It shows that this is a charity that cares about their staff and their wellbeing”
What It Means For You
A work-life balance where you have 20% more time to recharge, pursue hobbies, or spend with loved ones — all while maintaining your full salary. Here’s why we feel our Four Day Week scheme is an unparalleled benefit for prospective employees:
- More Time for You: Staff have reported feeling better rested and more prepared for their workweeks. One said, “Having an extra day affords me time to completely recover from the previous week and fully switch off”.
- Improved Wellbeing: Our team described feeling more motivated and supported, with respondents to staff surveys reporting greatly reduced levels of stress both in and out of work.
- Flexibility: Non-working days can be adjusted to fit personal and professional needs.
By joining Future Projects, you’ll not only contribute to meaningful work supporting some of the most disadvantaged people and communities in Norfolk, but be part of a forward-thinking organisation that values your time and wellbeing.
